Dated 12.4.08

Lispy old person Barbara Walters serves up her annual 10 Most Fascinating People special tonight, softballing with the likes of Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Tina Fey, Michael Phelps, and Gov. Palin. It's more mom-TV than must-see, but don't you kind of miss Palin interviews a little?
- The 2008 NYC Blip Festival showcases music created using outdated video-game controllers and other archaic bits of gear. Finally, a music festival where the Tetris theme is accorded the respect it deserves.
- The East London Design Show brings the work of a hundred talented young designers to the public, for cheaper than the bigger design fests.
- Today in 1954, the first Burger King opened in Miami. (Somehow we doubt this will be spotlighted at Art Basel.)
- And today in 1969, rapper, music executive, and general impresario Jay-Z was born. From the Marcy Projects to Charlie Rose, it's been a long journey for Hov—not to mention for Charlie, who demonstrates an unlikely expertise in their interview (below).
